Let’s support good in the world and make a difference. Help us build a diverse publishing landscape, from reader to publisher and back again.
This November, I'm aiming to write 50,000 words. The more words I write, the more funds I hope to raise for 'We Need Diverse Books'. WNDB is a US-based non-profit that strives to create a world where everyone can find themselves in the pages of a book. WNDB provides mentorship and support to diverse writers, provides books to classrooms, and combats book bans in the US.
I've always read fantasy. These stories stayed with me throughout my life, taught me and comforted me. But while imagination has no bounds, the real world does.
This is why we need voices of different backgrounds, ethnicities, abilities, sexualities, genders, and neurodivergence. Voices of characters, and voices that tell their stories. Accurate and diverse representation increases our understanding of others. It paints a more realistic picture of the world. Moreover, more people can read stories with characters they identify with. Stories that stay with them.
